Third sport officially added

Filed under: walking, cycling, swimming, triathlon — Princess Runner @ 6:41 pm

Week two of triathlon training is underway. I had my third trip to the pool today. It was super crowded. I shared the open area (the lap swim lanes were filled) with an old man who leered a bit too much and a lady who hopped up and down the pool length.

I couldn’t bear to walk/run around the indoor track because it was so sunny outside, so instead I walked around the perimeter of the gym. I really need to get used to people’s shock and amazement at seeing a pedestrian, even on the sidewalk. It’s getting old.

The most exciting news is that even if it stays cold (not that I am hoping it does), I can still get my bike workouts in, thanks to the acquisition below. We got a great deal on it because it is now the off-season for indoor biking, I guess.

Last night I used the stability that the bike trainer provides to learn how to clip in and out of my pedals. I have more trouble getting out than in right now, but will need more practice overall once I get outside.

I was surprised by how tired my legs got by biking and I had to stop a few times during my 25 minute workout.

Triathlon training has begun

Filed under: triathlon, training — Princess Runner @ 7:57 pm

I really have no idea what I am doing in terms of my triathlon training. I tried to find a beginner schedule online, but for some reason the only ones I kept coming across were for a fee. What is that about? If I want to pay for a schedule I will buy a $15 book before I will spend $35 on a website schedule.

I finally found a free one online and seems okay. Today on the first day though, I already had to do two sports! It seemed like a bit early for that, but I did it anyway. I did 15 minutes swimming and 20 minutes running per the schedule. It was the first time that I had visited the pool at the gym that I have been running at for a year and a half. There is a lap pool, an outdoor pool, and a lagoon pool with a slide. There were five other people there. All middle aged men.

I had a fun time swimming and I think I have better endurance already than I thought, although I still have a long way to go. I did 250 yards. I would have gone for longer just to see if I could, but I didn’t want to overdo it.

I ran/walked on the indoor track after the swim. I was a little annoyed that the woman wearing jeans passed me on my last lap, but it was the cool down, so I couldn’t speed up to pass her.

I am not sure what I will do for the bike if this constant snow continues. Hopefully it will warm up soon so that I can bike outdoors. Although if you ask Prince E, it is never too cold to cycle. He has continued to ride his bike to work all through the winter.

And the anxiety has begun…

Most likely as a result of posting this announcement last night, I had a dream about Prince E and I participating in a triathlon. The swim segment involved us “swimming” on our bellies across a road (there was no water, so really we were just crawling). Then we had to run through a house (not sure what happened to the cycling segment). It was dark and there were lots of stairs. One of the staircases was filled with cats; probably about 30 of them. Everyone was just running up the stairs in the dark, but I turned on the light so I didn’t step on the cats. Then we left the house and there was another “swimming” segment, although this time they just let as walk across the road, but we had to pretend like we were walking through a pool.
